Financial Aid
Tiferet has a limited amount of tuition assistance available for qualified incoming students. Please contact us early to determine your eligibility.
Students and their parents who need financial assistance in order to satisfy their tuition and other expenses of their year in Israel should also discuss possible sources with their high school’s Israel advisor and financial aid director, well in advance of applying to any Israel program.
ATTENDING TIFERET THROUGH JOINT-PROGRAMS OF STERN COLLEGE/YU OR TOURO
Tiferet is proud to be part of 2 college-affiliated joint programs which grant one-year of college credits: The S. Daniel Abraham Israel Program at Yeshiva University (Stern College) and the Touro College Israel Option.
IMPORTANT GUIDELINES: You must apply for admission to Stern or Touro very early in the last year of high school and get accepted to their joint program; and you are required to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) immediately. Your acceptance into a joint program and the FAFSA application, which is reviewed by governmental agencies, not Tiferet or the colleges, determines your eligibility for the following tuition assistance programs. (The maximum amounts vary every year because of the Federal budget.)
- Federal Pell Grant - PELL is administered and funded by the Federal government and provides grants ranging up to $6,095 per year towards the educational expenses of eligible students. Eligibility is determined by a formula set by Congress and is based on information reported in the FAFSA. Most applicants do not get the maximum amount.
- New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) - TAP provides grants for students who are legal residents of New York State. TAP provides grants up to $5,165 per year to eligible students. Awards are determined by the amount of parents’ net taxable New York State income (gross income less all exemptions and deductions). Most applicants do not get the maximum amount.
- Federal Stafford Loan Program - The Federal Stafford Loan Program makes low interest loans available to college students. The loan limit for Dependant Students is about $5,500 (up to $3,500 subsidized).
- Federal PLUS Loans - Parents may apply for a larger loan at a fixed interest rate. A credit check is required.
ADDITIONAL TUITION ASSISTANCE SOURCES
- MASA - A joint program of the Israeli government and the Jewish Agency, MASA provides $200 grants to every student attending Tiferet for the entire year at https://www.masaisrael.org/grants/apply. Needs-based scholarships for larger amounts (could be $1,573 to $2,946) are also available through a supplemental application which is based upon income limitations as shown on the family’s most recent tax return.
- NCSY- If your daughter has participated in NCSY programs, she may be eligible for grants ranging from $250 to $1,500, depending upon her local chapter’s criteria and its financial resources. PLEASE INQUIRE EARLY
- UJA-Federation/Jewish Community Centers - We have seen awards ranging from $500 to $1,500 from the student’s local Federation affiliate for the year in Israel.
- Synagogues - While it may be rare, we have seen awards of up to $1,000 for the year. Ask your Rabbi for guidance.
- Alisa Flatow Memorial Scholarship Fund – a limited number of scholarships are awarded every year.
- Family Assistance (relatives) and Student Self-help (summer jobs)
Tiferet will assist you with the MASA process once you are enrolled and we will assist you with the joint programs, but you must research all sources immediately and directly.
Most importantly…apply for all scholarships EARLY!
