On Thursday November 4th, our students went on a "Tanach Tiyul". On Wednesday, we prepared by studying the events of the first prakim of Sefer Yehoshua, including the crossing of the Yarden and the conquest of Yericho. Then on Thursday, we went out to those very same areas to see how the stories we had just learned, actually occurred in the real life terrain of Eretz Yisrael. We went to the exact spot where Bnei Yisrael crossed the Yarden and we discussed the philosophical and practical aspects of that tremendous moment.
We then went to the beautiful Mitzpeh Yericho hilltop settlement, where we looked out onto the modern city of Yericho and discussed the dynamics of that famous military campaign that occurred over 3,000 years ago. We even got the opportunity to hear from the mayor, Aliza Pilichowski, about the exciting plans she has for the city's future. It was a tremendous zchut for all of us to learn and bring to life the Torah that actually happened here in Eretz Yisrael.
